Massage parlors and brothels in Costa Rica
Prostitution in Costa Rica is legal for those 18 and older.
It is not difficult to find places where sex services are offered. One of the best known places is the Hotel del Rey in downtown San Jose. There is no reason to stay there overnight if one didn't come for the prostitutes.
Besides the girls the casino is yet another attraction of the hotel, but there are several nicer and more inviting casinos in San Jose than this one. The Sportsmen's Lodge is another similar establishment like the Hotel del Rey, though on a smaller scale.
Typical nightclubs (strip clubs) like Club Elite, on Paseo Colon, are highly visible. With their flashing neon lights these places compete for sex tourists that are looking for the paid girlfriend experience in Costa Rica.
Though most of those places are not only aimed at the foreigners, and inside locals will outnumber visitors. Especially massage parlors are popular amongst Costa Rican men that are into paid sex. Massage parlors are most often hard to identify, because most of them lack signs. Some of them have the name of the establishment written over the door. Others just have fluorescent letters saying "Open" in the window.
Not only girls from Costa Rica, as well many women from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic work in the sex trade in Costa Rica.
Soliciting sexual services of children is illegal in Costa Rica and is punishable by imprisonment.
